Some odors don't go away with cleaning. Smoke after a fire, an apartment where smoking has occurred for a long time, mold smell after flooding, or the heaviness of a space that has been closed for a long time — what these have in common is that odor molecules have permeated surfaces and pores. Room sprays and scented cleaners mask the odor, but it returns at the same intensity a few days later.
How is persistent odor eliminated?
The foundation of odor removal is chemically breaking down the odor molecule. At TeknoDRY, we apply the following methods depending on the situation:
- Ozone application: Ozone oxidizes and breaks down odor molecules on every surface it reaches. It reaches even hard-to-access points such as inside cabinets, curtains, carpets, and ventilation ducts. During application, the space is vacated, and after the process it is delivered ventilated.
- Hydroxyl method: Preferred when the space cannot be vacated; it is slower but can be applied while the space is in use.
- Source cleaning: If the material emitting the odor is wet or moldy, that layer is addressed first; no method provides a permanent result while the source persists.
- Drying: After water damage, the main task in odor removal is drying. Odor cannot be removed without eliminating moisture.
- Air cleaning: After application, particle load in the air is reduced with HEPA filtered devices.
Where is it applied?
Residential and commercial spaces with fire and smoke damage, basements and warehouses after flooding, rental apartments before handover, hotel rooms, second-hand vehicles, restaurant and kitchen exhaust lines, gyms and locker rooms are the areas where this service is most frequently applied.
Process and safety
Before application, the space is prepared and sensitive materials are protected. Ozone application is performed in an environment without people or pets present; duration is determined according to volume and odor intensity. At the end of the process, forced ventilation is carried out and the space is delivered ready for use. In severe cases, complete results may not be achieved in a single session; for such jobs, a repeat plan is communicated in advance.
